Fishing paradise: Siluro(catfish), black-bass, walleye and carp in Mequinenza and Fayon

The catfish, black-bass, walleye and carp fishing is one of the attractions of this area. Mequinenza, the fishing capital, share the same water and fish species you can find in the Matarraña mouth. Because of the rocky orography this is the best place for the black-bass sportive fishing. That is why we suggest you new experience, the kayak fishing (view more information), a new way to fish based on the stealth and the environmental communion.

Historic area, the Ebro Battle scene in the spanish civil war, trench and war positions

On 25 of July of 1938, the Ebro army of the republican side started the offensive against the national faction, breaking out one of the most transcendental battles in the history of the spanish civil war. At the beginning, the republican side got over control more than 200 square km close to Ebro river (between Mequinenza and Cherta), but they got defeated against the national counteroffensive carried out by the Franco troops (read more about the Ebro battle).

This emblematic battle left us too many memories; trenches, forgotten armaments, destroyed bridges... Walking around the most relevant points, we get a complete history lesson giving us, going through the tortuous trenches, another point of view. La punta del Duc, where the grown Matarraña spill his water into the imperturbable Ebro river, is one of the most important strategic points used during the battle, without any doubt, an obligated visit:

It becomes a symbol for those who have not suffered the war, for those who suffered it, it is a ghost from the past. The rest of the tunnel still goes throughout the Bugarreits crag supporting the pass of time with a worrying look. The bridge was destroyed during the Ebro battle, if we get close, we can still see the bullet marks:
